What I am Doing
I am currently volunteering at the Bethany House in Krugerdorp, South Africa. I have planned on living in South Africa and working with the Bethany House for a year, but I am open to God calling me here for longer. The Bethany House is a children’s home as well as a child protection agency. The Bethany House consists of a baby house, toddler house, girls house, and boys house with a total of about 50 children living in the houses.

I am working with the Bethany House’s socio-legal department. My job is to counsel troubled children in the local schools. I am currently counseling groups and individuals. The Bethany House has created several group therapy programs that we implement in the schools including bereavement, low self-esteem, divorce, and victims of sexual abuse.
I also spent time after work and on the weekends with the children who live at the Bethany House. They are great kids who I enjoy getting to spend time with!

Good evening. I came across your blog as I was looking for details on Bethany house. I live just outside Krugersdorp. You see, I gave my heart to God after stumbing down-hill. Your blog is so inspiring that I was wondering how I can help. I’d love to do counselling but don’t know where to start! I have 2 kids and as a single mom knows the hurt they are going through. Am I allowed to just visit the kids and spend some time playing with them? My heart goes out to them and I thank God for His servants like yourself that enters these kids’ lives like angels sent from heaven. God Bless. Leonor

Thank you for your comments! They are very encouraging! I actually haven’t updated my blog in a while, but I am back in America. The Bethany House is a great place to volunteer and spend some time playing with kids. I loved my time there! If you contact them and let them know you are interested in working with the kids, they should give you guidance on how best to do that!
